The Louisiana Dental Association (LDA) is currently seeking candidates for the position of Executive Director.  Based in Baton Rouge, LA, the LDA is the leading voice advocating for dental professionals and their patients in Louisiana, the host of multiple annual dental continuing education conferences and a vital source of information for dental practice owners/managers.  Reporting to the president and board of directors, the Executive Director provides guidance to the board in governance and policy matters and leads the association staff and volunteers in implementing the priorities of the association, as reflected in the strategic plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the association staff in conducting the operations of LDA on a day-to-day basis.
  • Plan, formulate and recommend to the Board basic policies and programs.
  • In concert with the president of the LDA, serve as a spokesperson for the association.
  • Implement LDA’s strategic plan.
  • Promote interest and active participation in the association and its activities among member and non-member dentists; direct membership retention and recruitment.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of the governmental relations and legislative program.
  • Facilitated effective communication, cooperation and representation with the American Dental Association and in-state local dental societies.
  • Oversee administration of the budget and assure that all funds, physical assets and other property of the association are appropriately safeguarded and administered.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the operation of the association office, including oversight of:
    • Proper maintenance of bylaws, policy manuals, minutes and other official records.
    • Purchasing, maintenance and security of necessary IT.
    • Planning, promotion, logistical support, and administration of all meetings/conferences.
  • Serve as chief administrator for affiliated entities, including two political action committees, one for-profit subsidiary and a 501(c)(3) foundation.

Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships on behalf of the Association with regulatory entities, the LSU School of Dentistry and other health care organizations.
  • Ability to travel, both in-state and out (overnight travel equals approx. 27 nights per year).
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

 

Desired qualifications include:

  • Advanced degree, especially in business, law, communications or health care.
  • Prior experience in association management or other non-profit background (executive director or middle management level preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role with a track record of fostering a collaborative work environment
  • Experience in health care, especially dentistry.
  • Prior work in legislative and/or grassroots advocacy.
  • Knowledge or experience in communications and public relations.

Strong organizational development skills.
