Louisiana Clean Fuels seeks a Clean Cities Intern

The Clean Cities University Workforce Development Program is an initiative of Clean Cities, a government-industry partnership sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy's Vehicle Technologies Program. Clean Cities strives to reduce petroleum consumption in the transportation sector in nearly 100 communities across the country. Since the creation of the CCUWDP in 2010,Clean Cities has hosted more than 300 interns in more than 60 Coalitions.

The Clean Cities internship will give students studying communications, public relations, business, marketing, engineering, or environmental sciences the opportunity to grow public awareness and expand the markets of advanced vehicle technologies, alternative fuels, and practices that reduce the consumption of petroleum. Students have participated in research, outreach activities, public education, K-12 outreach, fleet events, and a vast array of transportation-related environmental projects.

Overview:Candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate (junior or senior only) or graduate degree-granting program. Internship will begin June 10, 2019,and run through August 23, 2019. The intern will have the option to reapply for another Fall 2019/Spring 2020 Internship.

Specific Details:

  • Position is for 30 or 40 hours per week(determined by the coalition) for 11 weeks (1 week unpaid time off).
  • Internship dates: approximately JUNE 10, 2019 through AUGUST 23, 2019. Exact start/end dates determined by individual coalitions
  • Stipends range from $3,600 - $4,800 per semester depending on academic classification and number of hours assigned by the coalition.
  • Many past internships have led to permanent positions!

Qualifications:Strong motivation to make a difference in the world, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, reliability, general high-level computer literacy, good public speaking skills, assertiveness and willingness to take initiative. Strong Excel skills are a must, database skills a plus. This position is most applicable to upper-level undergraduate students studying economics, energy policy, applied automotive technology or a similar field. A strong interest in environmental and/or energy-related causes is beneficial.

Responsibilities will include a mixture of the following:

  1. Compiling fleet data, such as vehicle/engine type and fuel consumption, which will be used to complete fleet management and feasibility studies.
  2. Collect and compile fuel pricing data for quarterly reports.
  3. Conduct alternative fuel technology-related research.
  4. Update and manage databases including databases and mailing list of Louisiana fleets, elected officials, industry stakeholders, and other contacts.
  5. Conduct telephone, email and personal outreach (including tabling at events) to prospective Louisiana Clean Fuels members, vehicle fleet owners, media contacts and/or policy-makers, community organizations,fuel marketers, and others.
  6. Assist with event coordination— support event and communications staff with technical workshops, webinars, conferences, and other events, including producing materials, conducting outreach, and helping with event logistics.
  7. Attend weekly staff meetings to provide task updates and coordinate with other LCF staff.
  8. Lead at least one outreach initiative for the coalition with guidance and support from LCF staff.
  9. Perform routine administrative tasks and support other staff work as needed.
