The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi seeks a Communications Director 

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi seeks an experienced communications professional to maintain and continually develop its strategic national communications plan and full-funnel awareness campaign through a wide range of tactics including public relations, media outreach, social media, print and electronic collateral and branding. Position Description
: The communication director executes the Society’s strategic national communications plan and full-funnel awareness campaign through a wide range of tactics including public relations, media outreach, social media, print and electronic collateral and branding.

Social media Advertisements
Promotional materials and collateral Chapter marketing and PR support
Media outreach Internal communications


Primary Objectives

  • Increase and enhance relevance and visibility of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi to internal and external audiences
  • Maintain and continually develop a proactive communications plan and awareness campaign
  • Provide necessary PR, marketing and communications support to in-house staff and chapter-level contacts
  • Establish and maintain brand visibility and cohesiveness throughout all Society materials

Specific Responsibilities of the Job

  • Awareness Campaign: Manage full-funnel campaign consisting of web and social media ads targeted to PhiKappaPhi.org visitors; track conversions and implement optimizations as needed
  • News releases: Write, edit, proof and distribute Society and chapter news releases and media advisories announcing Society newsworthy events, new members, award winners, Society initiatives, chapter achievements and more
  • National and chapter publicity: Publicize Society and chapter happenings to internal and external audiences through print and electronic collateral, media outreach and public relations; serve as Society’s liaison to university and college media departments; monitor all Society news coverage
  • Social media: Maintain up-to-date and active social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, Flickr, YouTube) with relevant and timely postings; manage advertising and engagement campaigns on active social media channels
  • Promotional materials and collateral: Develop electronic and print collateral such as posters, brochures, awards materials, advertisements, banners and templates for all national and chapter-level needs; coordinate creation of materials with third-party graphic designer
  • Media outreach: Manage timely outreach to all media outlets including campus media departments, newspapers, online publications and television and radio stations
  • Society publications: Provide assistance as necessary to the production of Society publications includingPhi Kappa Phi Forum, annual reports, and member and officer e-newsletters
  • Advertisements: Coordinate placement of all Society advertisements such as chapter recognition winners, general Society and chapter advertisements and award winners; coordinate creation with third-party graphic designer
  • Development: Help create and promote development activities including Giving Tuesday and the annual appeal
  • Chapter marketing and PR: Assist chapter communications coordinator with all marketing, creative services, communications and PR needs for chapters
  • Internal communications: Create and edit presentations, reports and forms for all staff needs related to committee, board and staff meetings, chapter visits and workshops, and other events as necessary

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while adhering to deadlines
  • Experience working with news and media contacts
  • Ability to work both autonomously as well as cohesively as part of a team
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of Associated Press and Chicago Manual writing styles
  • Experience with information dissemination tools and content management systems
  • Proficiency with software including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite

Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or related field; 5+ years related experience at an academic institution, media/PR agency, non-profit organization or corporation
